Linefold is a record: notes, tasks and images, arranged into ordered Note Strings, kept on your devices and in your own iCloud. The answers below cover what people ask most. For anything else, write to us.
Turn on Sync through iCloud in Settings on each device. Every change is written to your own iCloud, record by record, and your other devices are told the moment it lands. A change made on the phone reaches the iPad and the Mac within seconds while they are open, and the next time they open otherwise.
Check that both devices are signed into the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive on, and that Sync through iCloud is on in Linefold's Settings on both. The Sync section in Settings says when each device last wrote and last received a change, and shows any error. If a device says it has not received anything, put Linefold in the background and open it again; that asks iCloud for changes.
A note edited on one device after it was deleted on another comes back, on purpose. The edit is newer than the deletion, so the edit wins. Delete it again and it stays gone.
That is by design. Each device remembers which record it has open, the way Mail and Files remember where you are.
With Keep rolling backups on, Linefold keeps the seven most recent complete snapshots on the device. Write a full backup in Settings saves a complete zip, images and recordings included, anywhere you choose. Read a backup back in restores from one. iCloud sync is not a backup; a backup is.
Install Linefold, sign into the same Apple Account, and turn on Sync through iCloud. The whole record arrives on first launch. If you do not use iCloud, write a full backup on the old device and read it back in on the new one.
Seal a note from its Keeping section. It then opens only with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. Sealing protects the note inside Linefold; it does not encrypt the note on the device, and a backup you write still carries it.
Hold the voice-note button to record. Transcription runs on the device using Apple's speech recognition, so it needs a language the device supports offline; the recording is kept even if the transcript fails, and you can retry it from the note. If playback is silent, check the ring switch and that the device is not in a Focus that silences media.
Tap Select at the top of any list, check the entries, and use the Delete rule at the foot of the list. One confirmation covers them all. A single note can still be deleted from inside the note.
Open the string and choose Export as a document. PDF is paginated and single-ink; Word, Markdown and plain text carry the same content as text; Zip carries the text with every image and recording alongside. Each opens the share sheet, so it can go to Files, Mail or any app that takes a document.
Brainstorm uses an AI provider you choose and pay for with your own key: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or a proxy you run. Enter the key in Settings, send a test message, and save the provider. The key stays in the Keychain on that device. Nothing is sent to a provider until you type in a Brainstorm conversation, and the provider's own terms govern what it does with the text.
