Linefold is a private record. The short version: your notes stay on your devices and in your own iCloud. Nothing is sent to us, because there is no us to send it to. There are no accounts, no analytics and no advertising.
Your notes, tasks, Note Strings, images, voice recordings and their transcripts are stored in Linefold's own storage on each device. Linefold also keeps the seven most recent complete backups of your record on the device, and any backup you write yourself goes wherever you choose to save it.
If Sync through iCloud is on, Linefold writes every note, task and Note String, with its images and recordings, to the private CloudKit database of your own iCloud account, and your other devices read it back. That database is yours: it is protected by your Apple Account, we have no access to it, and Apple's iCloud terms govern it. Note bodies are stored there in encrypted fields. Turn sync off in Settings and nothing further is written.
If you use the Brainstorm feature, the API key you provide is stored in the Apple Keychain on the device. It is never included in backups you write, exports or iCloud sync of the record. An encrypted device backup made by iOS or macOS can carry it, the way it carries other Keychain items.
Only two things, both under your control.

Brainstorm is optional and off until you set it up. It sends the text you type in a Brainstorm conversation, together with any note text you choose to include, to an AI provider you select and pay for with your own key: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or a proxy you run. That provider's privacy policy governs what it does with the text. Linefold never sends anything to a provider on its own, and nothing else in the record is sent.
Sealing a note puts it behind Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode inside Linefold. It is an access gate, not encryption: the note is stored on the device the same way as any other, and a backup you write carries it. In iCloud, sealed and unsealed note bodies alike sit in encrypted fields. If you need a note encrypted at rest on the device, Linefold is not yet the right place for it.
When you share a link or text into Linefold from another app, the share extension writes it to a private inbox on the device, and Linefold files it into your record the next time it opens. Nothing about the share is sent anywhere.
Linefold is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Because Linefold has no accounts, there is no way to notify you directly; the version in the app's Settings will always point here.
